Genias description (EN)

Genias Benelux is a computer consultancy and software company, providing solutions, project management and implementation services. The areas of expertise range from High Performance and Grid Computing to XML-software.

Genias Benelux BV is active in various European countries. It co-operates in and co-ordinates international projects to stimulate the dissemination and application of the latest developments in the high tech computer industry and computer science. Typical partners of Genias in these projects are academic institutions and small to medium businesses.

The main XML-product of Genias is G-VMP: the Virtual Media Publisher. It is a publishing system for creating, editing and managing any type of magazine or newsletter. There is a Standard Edition that allows you to create a new magazine design within 30 minutes. The Pro Edition lets you design your own stylesheets, and has an authoring system than can be accessed from anywhere in the world over the Internet. G-VMP is also a full-blown Content Management System that can be used for creating managable Web sites.

The projects Genias takes part in or did take part in are:- Primeur/VMW news service

  • AlmereGrid and EDGeS
  • WebSET
  • IERAPSI
  • Eroppa
  • Dynamite

Primeur/EnterTheGrid and VMW

Primeur is an initiative of people from 10 European countries, co-operating in providing a weekly and monthly supercomputing newsletter. The news is mainly European computer news aimed at an academic and business audience. The Primeur Web site contains news on national computer projects, EC news on the computer front and provides a forum for discussion on high performance computing and related topics. Primeur regularly attends supercomputer meetings worldwide to report live to the reader.

EnterTheGrid is a portal for Grid computing, the Next Generation Internet.

Virtual Medical Worlds is a magazine on telemedicine, virtual surgery and enabling technologies, such as HPCN, virtual reality, large database technology.

WebSET

The WebSET project aims to produce a standardised suite of interactive three-dimensional educational tools, delivered across the WWW. The major focus is put on the use of open technology and standards, as well as the production of learning components which can be used as building blocks for further development in a wide range of application areas, such as surgical training and physiological education. WebSET is supported by the European Commission under contract number IST-1999-10632.

IERAPSI

IERAPSI (Integrated Environment for Rehearsal and Planning of Surgical Interventions) is an R&D project aimed at developing an interactive computerised environment for the planning and rehearsal of surgical procedures in individual patients. IERAPSI is supported by the European Commission under contract number IST-1999-12175.

EROPPA

The objective of EROPPA is to design, implement and test remote access for Post Production Companies to 3-D graphics applications running on High Performance Computer Centers. Most of these companies cannot afford a truly High Performance Computer but need them badly for rendering images. Remote access to such a computer in a High Performance Computer Center would be an ideal solution. The European project EROPPA aims to provide the knowhow and the software and make this possible.

Genias Benelux' partners in EROPPA were:

  • Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands
  • National Technical University of Athens, Greece
  • Raster Facilitair, The Netherlands
  • Mangos Studios, Greece

More information at: The EROPPA Web site.

Dynamite

Many companies own a massively parallel computing system without realising it. A survey pointed out that at a large company with many workstations, 75% of the time those workstations do not work at all. If only this idle time could be used productively ... The European project Dynamite aims to provide the software and the method to let those workstations work interactively when needed and to use their spare time for massively parallel computer tasks. To realise this, the workstations have to be monitored constantly and every change in workload will have to result in a different distribution of the computer tasks at hand.

Genias Benelux' partners in Dynamite are:- Engineering Systems International, France

  • University of Paderborn, Germany
  • University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands
